Ways To Personalise A Funeral Service

Ways To Personalise A Funeral Service

A funeral or celebration of life service is both meaningful and memorable and should be as unique as the individual being remembered. It should be a ceremony that reflects personal values, interest and experiences – all the the things that form the loved ones story.

Plan a funeral, memorial or celebration of life service that’s right for your loved one. By creating a personalised service to honour your loved one is a way of saying farewell to someone special and their unique life they shared with you. It is a way to assure that someone’s life is recognised and remembered.

We have listed a few ideas to help you create the perfect farewell

  1. Create a memory and photo table.
  2. Give a small memento or token gift to guests.
  3. Wear special colours to the service.
  4. Memory cards.
  5. Decorate the venue.
1. Create a memory and photo table.

As you plan and prepare for the funeral you may want to gather a few special items to display on a memory table. Memory tables give you the opportunity to reflect on your loved one’s unique personality. If you are having trouble wading through an entire lifetime’s worth of belongings, maybe look at choosing a theme and build from there. They may have had a favourite sports team, had a love for the garden, or enjoyed water activities. Thinking of this may provide you with a place to start. You may also want to label items or write a short story explaining the significance of each. Guests will appreciate being able to understand the significance of the items you’ve chosen to display. Consider when choosing items to be displayed the size and location of the table.

You can be creative in displaying photos. You could display a welcome sign with cherished photo, create a photo board, have photos hanging on string or tree branches, or in frames amongst memorabilia on the memory table. As you plan and prepare for the funeral you may want to gather a few special items to display on a memory table. 2. Give a small memento or token gift to guests.

Funeral favours or gifts are a way to say thank you to guests who have offered and showed their support after the loss of a loved one. These are small mementos or keepsakes that you hand out at funerals, memorials, or life celebration events.

Funeral favours are an optional part of planning a funeral but are a nice gesture and a lovely way to keep your departed loved one in the hearts and minds of all who were part of the service.

The options to choose from are endless. A small gift could be a seeded card, pocket token, thank you postcard, favourite recipe card, tea or coffee lovers’ gift, or candle favour.

We offer a range of beautiful ideas to help create a special farewell.

3. Wear special colours to the service.

Colourful funerals encourage guests to wear colours that reflect and celebrate the life of the deceased instead of wearing black. Your loved one may have had a favourite colour or sporting team. Request guests to wear a special colour and/or clothes that honour and reflect their personality. Offer a choice, giving guests the option of wearing colours or dressing in more traditional funeral colours if they would feel more comfortable in doing so.

4. Memory Cards

Create a table with memory cards so guests can record their own special memories of the deceased or just to write their words of condolence. These cards can be used in place of a guest book and are much more touching than just getting the guests signatures.

Memory cards also become a great conversation piece as guests can swap stories, reflect and share their favourite memories. This is something that is lovely to have set up during the wake, where people can take the time to record their memory.

Memory cards can be placed in a basket, jar or large board and will become a treasured keepsake for the family.

5. Decorate the venue.

Simple things can be done to make the venue feel more personal and welcoming. Choose items that represent the loved one. This may include sport team memorabilia, favourite plants, fishing rods, surfboards, books or balloons. These can be spread around the venue or placed together in a corner to create a central display.

A funeral, memorial or celebration of life service should be a reflection of someone’s unique life. The words of the service and music played should reveal the individual and the life they shared. Adding a personal touch, where someone’s personality, hobbies and interests can be reflected is about saying farewell in a memorable way.
